5 Best Eats in Canggu

It’s no secret that the food scene in Canggu is big and continuing to grow. Everywhere you look there are hip, boho style cafes and cosy local gems. With endless dining options in the area, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Here are my top food picks in Canggu where you’ll be sure to leave with a happy belly.

Eggs Benedict at The Avocado Factory in Bali

Eggs Benedict at The Avocado Factory

1. The Avocado Factory

Avocado lovers, this one’s for you! As the name suggests, everything on the menu is centered around avocado. The Avocado Factory is actually South East Asia’s first ever Avocado bar.

Overlooking a beautiful rice field, it’s conveniently located just off a main shopping strip in Canggu. The cafe is cosy but always appears to be packed pretty full, it seems like people in Bali really love their avocado.

From sandwiches, to eggs benedicts, to bowls and avocado desserts, you’ll definitely find something that will take your fancy here. As a sweet tooth, the Avocado Pancakes caught my eye and sounded intriguing. I’m so glad I gave them a go, as these were the most delicious pancakes I’d had in a long time. Suprisingly, the avocado and chocoate gelato, coconut and maple syrup was a winning combination in terms of flavour and texture. If you’re going to order one dish here, make it this one!

2. Berawas Kitchen

Berawas Kitchen is Canggu’s main outdoor food venue with a 24 hour beer garden. Here you’ll find a small range of cuisines to choose from and enjoy in the open air space. Everything we saw was affordable so it’s a good option if you feel like eating out but don’t fancy paying restaurant prices.

I tried the Chick Wrap from Foxies Kitchen and loved the crunchy falafel and spiced chicken filling. This shop specialises in home cooked Halal Arabic food and my wrap was approx 70K (IDR). It was one of the more expensive options at the whole venue (prices start at around 30K) but the wrap was huge, so it was great value.

All of the shops here are available on Grab Food & Go Food, so if you don’t feel like venturing out, simply get some delicious eats delivered. They often have live music too so it’s a great place to hang out with friends over a tasty Western or Indonesian meal.

3. Warung Jaba

Warung Jaba is undoubtedly the most authentic and affordable Indonesian restaurant that I’ve visited in Bali. It’s a cosy and traditional vibe where there’s a small menu that you can order from or you can fill a plate with the dishes that are displayed behind cabinets.

Of course you’ll find the Indonesian classics like Mie Goreng, Nasi Goreng and Soto Ayam on offer. And if you don’t understand what some of the dishes are, don’t hesitate to ask for help as the family that runs the place are so lovely. For the drinks, they have a range of fresh juices and coconuts available which was just what we needed to go with our dinner. An average meal here costs between 20 and 30K which is so affordable, no wonder some people come here most nights of the week. It’s also nice to see a mix of tourists and locals alike dining here.

Iced Latte with Oat Milk at Sprout

4. Sprout

As soon as I arrived in Canggu, I was on a mission to find the best coffee nearby my hotel where I could get my fix every morning. So I was excited to discover Sprout as they do the most perfect iced latte!

Coffee aside, they have an extensive breakfast and lunch menu where their dishes tend to be on the healthier side. I’ve enjoyed their roast vege salad, beef burger and cookies that they display in the cabinet (they’re so crunchy and HUGE). I’ve been eyeing their smoothie bowls too so will definitely be ordering one on my next visit.

Furthermore, if you’re looking for a quieter space to get some work done or just enjoy some delicious food in a more relaxed and calm environment, Sprout is a great option. They have free wifi, it doesn’t seem to get too crowded here and there’ll undoubtedly be people working away on their laptops for hours at a time.

‘After the Party’ juice at Sari Kitchen

5. Sari Kitchen & Community

Sari is a stylish, aesthetic and large dining space with an extensive range of dishes to choose from. If you’re craving quality Western food, this is the place for you. The soft lounge background music is a vibe in itself and the cafe is only a 3 minute walk from the beach. It’s also a good spot to bring your laptop and get some work done but try to avoid peak times as it does get crowded.

My favourite dish that I’ve tried here would have to be the ‘Uncle Benny’. The tarragon hollondaise that they serve with the poached eggs + sauteed mushrooms is just to die for. I also love that they were served on English muffins - yum! For a healthy lunch option, I’d recommend the ‘Chicken Teriyaki Bowl’ too. It was a good portion size and left me full for ages. Most of the dishes on offer were around 50-70K (including tax) and they do have a promo on currently where you can get a free coffee or tea with your food order.

Be aware that there was no air conditioning (at least when I went), so try to sit as close as possible to the fans. Overall, if you’re staying in Canggu you’d really be missing out if you didn’t visit - at least once!
