New Korean Food Experience in Auckland CBD
Ever tried Korean style meatballs? If not, this is your chance here at the recently opened Meet Balls. Offering both dine in and takeaway, they specialise in Korean style rissoles + banchan. I was excited to discover them as this seems to be a one of a kind venue here in Auckland.
We booked in advance to try their special “Surasang” (The King’s Dinner Table) experience where they only host 1 sitting per day. The dinnerware used is very expensive, the glass itself is worth over $100. It was an interesting experience for sure since we were dining in such a casual, small shop yet using the most beautiful Korean traditional bronze ware!
The protein balls that were served were huge and well seasoned. I was expecting them to be smaller, maybe like Italian style meatballs so this was a good surprise. As well as 2 protein balls, this dine in special included 5 carb balls, 5 side balls and 2 drinks for $69. This is definitely well priced considering the amount of food you get and it was a fun experience trying out all different side dishes. If you get the chance to meet the owner, he is very helpful in explaining all the dishes and the traditional meaning behind the bronze ware.
Meet Balls is also a great option for a quick lunch or dinner. You could choose from their ‘mains’ options and get a protein ball with either rice, noodles or salad for $18. My favourites here are the Beef Ball, Chilli Sauced Rice Cakes and Honey Butter Kumara.
Don’t let the Victoria Street construction zone put you off visiting, Meet Balls is only a minute walk from Queen Street and deserve all the support they can get for their delicious Tteok-Galbi. DM them on Instagram here if you’d like to book their Surasang experience.
